Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups of fresh watermelon, cubed and seeded
- 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lime juice (about 4–5 limes)
- 1/4 cup of simple syrup (adjust to taste)
- 2 cups of cold water or sparkling water
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish
- Lime slices for garnish
- Optional: 1 cup of vodka or rum for an alcoholic version
Instructions
- Cut the watermelon into cubes, removing any seeds.
- Place the watermelon cubes in a blender and blend on high speed until liquefied (about 30 seconds to 1 minute).
- Strain the blended watermelon through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher, pressing down to extract as much juice as possible.
- Set aside the strained watermelon juice (about 3 cups).
- In a separate bowl or pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lime juice and simple syrup.
- Stir the lime juice and simple syrup until well combined. Adjust sweetness to taste.
- Add the watermelon juice to the limeade mixture and stir gently to combine.
- In a large pitcher, combine the watermelon-lime mixture with cold water or sparkling water.
- Stir gently to combine, being careful not to stir too vigorously if using sparkling water.
- If making the alcoholic version, add vodka or rum and stir gently.
- Fill a glass with ice cubes.
- Pour the watermelon limeade cocktail over the ice, filling the glass about three-quarters full.
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves and a slice of lime on the rim of the glass.
- Repeat for remaining glasses. This recipe serves about 4-6 people.
Notes
- Use ripe watermelon for the best flavor.
- Chill ingredients beforehand to keep the cocktail cold without excessive ice.
