Strawberry Mezcal Margarita: The Ultimate Recipe & Guide

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Description

Smoky and sweet Strawberry Mezcal Margarita with fresh strawberry puree, lime, and a hint of agave. A refreshing twist on a classic cocktail!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (or more, to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 4 ounces mezcal (I prefer a smoky reposado)
  • 2 ounces Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)
  • 2 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 2 ounces strawberry puree (from above)
  • 1 ounce agave nectar (or simple syrup, to taste)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedges
  • Strawberry slices
  • Salt or sugar for rimming the glasses (I like a chili-lime salt!)

Instructions

  1. Wash and hull the strawberries.
  2. Combine hulled strawberries, sugar, and lime juice in a blender or food processor.
  3. Blend until completely smooth. Scrape down sides as needed.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.
  5. (Optional) Strain through a fine-mesh sieve for an extra smooth puree.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  7. (Optional) Prepare glasses by rimming with salt or sugar.
  8. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  9. Add mezcal, Cointreau, lime juice, strawberry puree, and agave nectar to the shaker.
  10. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  11. Strain into prepared glasses filled with ice.
  12. Garnish with a lime wedge and strawberry slice.
  13. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness to your preference.
  • For a spicy kick, add chili powder to the puree or use chili-lime salt for the rim.
  • Experiment with different berries.
  • For a mocktail, omit the mezcal and Cointreau and add club soda.
  • To make a frozen margarita, blend all ingredients with ice.
  • Infuse your mezcal with strawberries for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Experiment with different types of mezcal (joven, reposado, añejo) to find your favorite flavor profile.
  • The strawberry puree and margarita base (without ice) can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Serve with your favorite Mexican dishes, grilled seafood, or chicken.
