Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 45 limes)
  • 1/4 cup agave syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup tequila (preferably a good quality blanco)
  • 1/2 cup mezcal (for that smoky flavor)
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • Ice cubes
  • Smoked sea salt (for rimming the glasses)
  • Fresh lime wedges (for garnish)
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Peel the ripe mangoes using a sharp knife, ensuring to get as much fruit as possible.
  2. Cut the mango flesh away from the pit into chunks for easier blending.
  3. Place the diced mango into a blender.
  4. Add 1/4 cup of fresh lime juice to the blender to balance the sweetness.
  5. Blend until smooth and creamy. If too thick, add a splash of water.
  6. Taste the puree; if desired, add agave syrup for extra sweetness and blend again.
  7. Set the mango puree aside in a bowl or pitcher.
  8. In a large pitcher, combine the mango puree with the remaining lime juice, tequila, mezcal, and orange liqueur.
  9. Stir well to combine all ingredients, using a whisk for aeration.
  10. Taste the mixture; add more agave syrup if needed and stir again.
  11. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to meld flavors.
  12. Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass.
  13. Spread smoked sea salt on a small plate.
  14. Dip the rim of each glass into the smoked salt, twisting for an even coating. Set aside.
  15. Remove the chilled margarita mix from the refrigerator and stir gently.
  16. Fill each prepared glass with ice cubes, about three-quarters full.
  17. Pour the margarita mix over the ice, filling each glass to the top.
  18. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim and a sprig of fresh mint, if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness of the margarita by varying the amount of agave syrup.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, substitute the tequila and mezcal with sparkling water or a non-alcoholic spirit.
