  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Indulge in a rich and creamy Polar Express Hot Chocolate, perfect for cozy nights. This decadent drink combines whole milk, heavy cream, and a blend of chocolate, creating a delightful experience that warms both heart and soul. Top it with whipped cream and chocolate shavings for an extra treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Whipped cream, for topping
  • Chocolate shavings or mini marshmallows, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, pour in the 4 cups of whole milk and 1 cup of heavy cream.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir the milk and cream together gently as they heat up, ensuring the mixture warms without boiling.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar.
  4. Once the milk and cream mixture is warm (with steam rising but not boiling), add the cocoa and sugar mixture to the saucepan. Whisk thoroughly until there are no lumps.
  5. Gradually add the 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips to the saucepan, whisking continuously.
  6. Stir the mixture over medium heat until all the chocolate chips have melted completely, about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Once smooth, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Whisk to combine and remove from heat.
  8. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, filling them about three-quarters full.
  9. Top each mug with a generous dollop of whipped cream.
  10. Garnish with chocolate shavings or mini marshmallows. Optionally, drizzle chocolate syrup over the whipped cream for an extra treat.
  11. Find a cozy spot to enjoy your hot chocolate, perhaps by the fireplace.
  12. Pair with cookies or cake for a delightful experience.
  13. Enjoy while watching a holiday movie or reading a book for a magical moment.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, consider using dark chocolate chips.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar according to your taste.
