- 4 slices of thick-cut bacon
- 2 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough or whole grain recommended)
- 1 medium ripe tomato, sliced
- 1 cup of fresh lettuce (romaine or iceberg for crunch)
- 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: sliced avocado or cheese for an extra twist
Instructions
- Place a large skillet over medium heat. A cast-iron skillet is ideal for even cooking.
- Lay the bacon strips in a single layer in the hot skillet. Avoid overcrowding; cook in batches if necessary.
- Cook for 4-5 minutes until crispy and golden brown. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
- Transfer cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease.
- While the bacon cooks, toast the bread slices in a toaster or a separate skillet with a little butter for added flavor.
- Toast until golden brown and crispy, then set aside to cool slightly.
- Wash the lettuce thoroughly under cold water and pat dry.
- Slice the tomato into thick, even slices (about 1/4 inch thick).
- If using, slice avocado or cheese into thin pieces.
- Start with one slice of toasted bread as the base.
- Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise evenly over the slice.
- Layer on 2-3 strips of crispy bacon.
- Add sliced tomatoes on top of the bacon, sprinkling with salt and pepper.
- Place fresh lettuce on top of the tomatoes. Add avocado or cheese if desired.
- Spread another tablespoon of mayonnaise on the second slice of toasted bread and place it mayo side down on top of the lettuce.
- Gently press down on the sandwich to help it hold together. Cut diagonally for a nice presentation if desired.
- Serve immediately while the bacon is warm and crispy, alongside chips, pickles, or a simple salad.
