Decadent Nutella pie with a chocolate wafer crust and optional chocolate ganache topping. Rich, creamy, and perfect for chocolate lovers!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups chocolate wafer crumbs (about 36 wafers)
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 16 ounces (2 cups) Nutella
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped
- ½ cup heavy cream
- Chopped hazelnuts
- Chocolate shavings
Instructions
- If using whole chocolate wafers, crush them into fine crumbs using a food processor or by placing them in a resealable bag and crushing with a rolling pin.
- In a medium bowl, combine the chocolate wafer crumbs, melted butter, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt. Mix well until evenly moistened.
- Transfer the crumb mixture to a 9-inch pie plate. Press firmly and evenly across the bottom and up the sides.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or freeze for 15 minutes).
- Ensure cream cheese is softened.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the Nutella and beat until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract to the whipped cream, beating until just combined.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the Nutella mixture in two additions.
- Add a pinch of salt.
- Remove the chilled crust from the refrigerator.
- Pour the Nutella filling into the crust, spreading it evenly.
- Smooth the top of the filling.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
- Finely chop the semi-sweet chocolate and place it in a heatproof bowl.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
- Pour the hot heavy cream over the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for a minute.
- Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the ganache is smooth and glossy.
- Let the ganache cool slightly for 10-15 minutes.
- Pour the slightly cooled ganache over the chilled Nutella pie, spreading it evenly.
- Chill for another 30 minutes to allow the ganache to set.
- Sprinkle chopped hazelnuts and/or chocolate shavings over the top of the pie.
- Other options: whipped cream, fresh berries, or cocoa powder.
- Slice and serve.
- Store any leftover pie in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 3 days.
Notes
- Make sure the cream cheese is properly softened for a smooth filling.
- Be careful not to overwhip the heavy cream.
- Chilling the pie for a longer time allows the flavors to meld together.
- The chocolate ganache topping is optional but adds an extra layer of richness.
- Get creative with garnishes to personalize the pie.
