Description

This Instant Pot Bone-In Turkey Breast is a quick and flavorful dish, perfect for any gathering. Seasoned with aromatic herbs and spices, it cooks to juicy perfection in no time. Serve with homemade gravy for a meal that will delight your guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (4-6 pound) bone-in turkey breast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Fresh herbs (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Thaw the Turkey Breast: If your turkey breast is frozen, thaw it in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before cooking.
  2. Pat Dry: Remove the turkey breast from its packaging and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. Season the Turkey: In a small bowl, mix salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary. Rub olive oil over the turkey breast, then sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly, including under the skin.
  4. Add Liquid: Pour chicken broth and lemon juice into the bottom of the Instant Pot.
  5. Insert the Trivet: Place the trivet inside the pot to keep the turkey elevated above the liquid.
  6. Place the Turkey in the Pot: Carefully place the seasoned turkey breast on top of the trivet, breast side up.
  7. Seal the Instant Pot: Close the lid and ensure the valve is set to sealing.
  8. Set Cooking Time: Select “Manual” or “Pressure Cook” and set the timer for 6 minutes per pound of turkey breast (30 minutes for a 5-pound turkey).
  9. Natural Release: After cooking, allow the Instant Pot to naturally release pressure for 15-20 minutes, then switch the valve to venting.
  10. Check Internal Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature reaches at least 165°F (75°C). If not, seal the pot and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  11. Remove the Turkey: Carefully lift the turkey out of the pot and let it rest for 10-15 minutes on a cutting board.
  12. Prepare the Gravy (Optional): Set the Instant Pot to “Sauté” mode and let the drippings simmer. Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water to create a slurry, then whisk it into the simmering liquid until thickened. Season with salt and pepper if needed.
  13. Slice the Turkey: After resting, slice the turkey against the grain.
  14. Plate and Garnish: Arrange the sliced turkey on a platter and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
  15. Serve with Gravy: Serve the turkey slices with gravy drizzled over the top or on the side.

Notes

  • Ensure the turkey breast is fully thawed for even cooking.
  • For added flavor, consider marinating the turkey breast overnight with the seasoning.
  • The gravy can be adjusted in thickness by varying the amount of cornstarch slurry used.
