Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (4-6 pound) bone-in turkey breast
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Fresh herbs (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Thaw the Turkey Breast: If your turkey breast is frozen, thaw it in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before cooking.
- Pat Dry: Remove the turkey breast from its packaging and pat it dry with paper towels.
- Season the Turkey: In a small bowl, mix salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary. Rub olive oil over the turkey breast, then sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly, including under the skin.
- Add Liquid: Pour chicken broth and lemon juice into the bottom of the Instant Pot.
- Insert the Trivet: Place the trivet inside the pot to keep the turkey elevated above the liquid.
- Place the Turkey in the Pot: Carefully place the seasoned turkey breast on top of the trivet, breast side up.
- Seal the Instant Pot: Close the lid and ensure the valve is set to sealing.
- Set Cooking Time: Select Manual or Pressure Cook and set the timer for 6 minutes per pound of turkey breast (30 minutes for a 5-pound turkey).
- Natural Release: After cooking, allow the Instant Pot to naturally release pressure for 15-20 minutes, then switch the valve to venting.
- Check Internal Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature reaches at least 165°F (75°C). If not, seal the pot and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove the Turkey: Carefully lift the turkey out of the pot and let it rest for 10-15 minutes on a cutting board.
- Prepare the Gravy (Optional): Set the Instant Pot to Sauté mode and let the drippings simmer. Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water to create a slurry, then whisk it into the simmering liquid until thickened. Season with salt and pepper if needed.
- Slice the Turkey: After resting, slice the turkey against the grain.
- Plate and Garnish: Arrange the sliced turkey on a platter and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
- Serve with Gravy: Serve the turkey slices with gravy drizzled over the top or on the side.
Notes
- Ensure the turkey breast is fully thawed for even cooking.
- For added flavor, consider marinating the turkey breast overnight with the seasoning.
- The gravy can be adjusted in thickness by varying the amount of cornstarch slurry used.
