Flaky salmon fillets glazed with a sweet and savory garlic honey sauce, perfect for a quick and delicious weeknight meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 (6-ounce) salmon fillets, skin on or off
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (or 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger)
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- Sesame seeds
- Chopped green onions
- Lemon wedges
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, sesame oil, and ginger (and red pepper flakes, if using).
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together water and cornstarch until dissolved.
- Bring the honey mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Slowly pour in the cornstarch slurry while whisking continuously.
- Simmer and whisk for 2-3 minutes, until the glaze thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels.
- Combine salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in a small bowl.
- Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the salmon fillets.
- Heat olive oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
- Place salmon fillets in the hot skillet, skin-side down if using skin-on fillets.
- Sear for 4-5 minutes, until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
- Flip the salmon fillets and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the salmon is almost cooked through. The internal temperature should reach about 145°F (63°C).
- Brush a generous amount of the garlic honey glaze over the top of each salmon fillet.
- Transfer the skillet to a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C). Bake for 3-5 minutes, or until the glaze is bubbly and the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Remove the skillet from the oven and let the salmon rest for a minute or two before serving.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush a generous amount of the garlic honey glaze over the top of each salmon fillet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach about 145°F (63°C).
- If you want a little extra caramelization on the glaze, you can broil the salmon for the last minute or two, but watch it very carefully to prevent burning.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the salmon rest for a minute or two before serving.
- Transfer salmon to plates, drizzle with remaining glaze, and garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, and lemon wedges.
Notes
- Skin-on salmon will be crispier when pan-seared.
- Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your liking.
- If you prefer a less sweet glaze, you can reduce the amount of honey slightly.
- To make this recipe gluten-free, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
- You can also cook this salmon in an air fryer! Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Place the salmon fillets in the air fryer basket and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until cooked through. Brush with the glaze during the last few minutes of cooking.
- You can prepare the garlic honey glaze ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week. Just warm it up before using.
