  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Flaky salmon fillets glazed with a sweet and savory garlic honey sauce, perfect for a quick and delicious weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 (6-ounce) salmon fillets, skin on or off
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (or 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions
  • Lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, sesame oil, and ginger (and red pepper flakes, if using).
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together water and cornstarch until dissolved.
  3. Bring the honey mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  4. Slowly pour in the cornstarch slurry while whisking continuously.
  5. Simmer and whisk for 2-3 minutes, until the glaze thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.
  6. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels.
  7. Combine salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in a small bowl.
  8. Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the salmon fillets.
  9. Heat olive oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
  10. Place salmon fillets in the hot skillet, skin-side down if using skin-on fillets.
  11. Sear for 4-5 minutes, until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
  12. Flip the salmon fillets and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the salmon is almost cooked through. The internal temperature should reach about 145°F (63°C).
  13. Brush a generous amount of the garlic honey glaze over the top of each salmon fillet.
  14. Transfer the skillet to a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C). Bake for 3-5 minutes, or until the glaze is bubbly and the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  15. Remove the skillet from the oven and let the salmon rest for a minute or two before serving.
  16. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  17. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  18. Place salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet.
  19. Brush a generous amount of the garlic honey glaze over the top of each salmon fillet.
  20. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach about 145°F (63°C).
  21. If you want a little extra caramelization on the glaze, you can broil the salmon for the last minute or two, but watch it very carefully to prevent burning.
  22. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the salmon rest for a minute or two before serving.
  23. Transfer salmon to plates, drizzle with remaining glaze, and garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, and lemon wedges.

Notes

  • Skin-on salmon will be crispier when pan-seared.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your liking.
  • If you prefer a less sweet glaze, you can reduce the amount of honey slightly.
  • To make this recipe gluten-free, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • You can also cook this salmon in an air fryer! Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Place the salmon fillets in the air fryer basket and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until cooked through. Brush with the glaze during the last few minutes of cooking.
  • You can prepare the garlic honey glaze ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week. Just warm it up before using.
