Ingredients

  • 1 cup hot water (not boiling, about 175°F or 80°C)
  • 1 cup dairy-free milk (almond, coconut, oat, or soy milk)
  • 12 tablespoons sweetener of choice (maple syrup, agave syrup, or a sugar substitute)
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: a pinch of vanilla extract
  • Optional: a sprinkle of cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, add 2 teaspoons of matcha green tea powder.
  2. Heat your water to about 175°F (80°C).
  3. Pour the hot water over the matcha powder in the bowl.
  4. Whisk the matcha and water together until smooth and frothy.
  5. Optionally, add a pinch of vanilla extract or a sprinkle of cinnamon and whisk until combined.
  6. Add 1-2 tablespoons of your chosen sweetener to the whisked matcha.
  7. Whisk again until the sweetener is fully dissolved. Adjust sweetness to taste.
  8. In a separate glass, pour 1 cup of your favorite dairy-free milk.
  9. Optionally froth the milk for a creamier texture.
  10. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  11. Pour the sweetened matcha mixture over the ice.
  12. Gently pour the dairy-free milk over the matcha.
  13. Optionally, sprinkle extra matcha powder or cinnamon on top for garnish.
  14. Stir gently to combine the matcha and milk.
