Description

This rich and creamy dark chocolate mousse features high-quality chocolate blended with a light, airy texture, making it a perfect dessert for special occasions or a delightful treat at home. Enjoy its indulgent flavors and elegant presentation!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 200g dark chocolate (70% cocoa), chopped
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Pinch of salt
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by melting the chocolate and butter together. Use a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth. Avoid overheating the chocolate.
  2. Once melted, remove from heat and let cool slightly until warm.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with granulated sugar and vanilla extract until pale and slightly thickened (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Gently fold the egg yolk mixture into the melted chocolate until just blended.
  5. In a clean, dry bowl, add egg whites and a pinch of salt. Beat on medium speed until soft peaks form (about 3-4 minutes).
  6. Gradually add a tablespoon of sugar while continuing to beat. Increase speed to high and beat until stiff peaks form.
  7. Carefully fold the whipped egg whites into the chocolate mixture in three additions, maintaining airiness.
  8. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream on medium-high speed until soft peaks form (about 2-3 minutes).
  9. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture in three additions, being careful to keep the texture light.
  10. Transfer the mousse into serving dishes (individual cups or a large bowl).
  11. Cover with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight for best results.
  12. Remove the mousse from the refrigerator and gently peel off any plastic wrap.
  13. Garnish with chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, fresh berries, or a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
  14. Serve and enjoy the creamy, rich mousse!

Notes

  • Ensure all bowls and utensils are clean and dry when whipping egg whites to achieve the best volume.
  • Use high-quality chocolate for optimal flavor.
  • Take your time when folding ingredients to maintain the mousse’s light texture.
