Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (226 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream (optional, for consistency)
Instructions
- Gather your ingredients. Ensure your cream cheese and butter are at room temperature for smooth blending.
- In a large mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 1-2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula to combine well.
- Add the softened unsalted butter to the bowl. Beat on medium speed until fully combined and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. The mixture should be light in color and texture.
- Pour in the vanilla extract and mix for an additional 30 seconds to evenly distribute the flavor.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed to prevent a sugar cloud. Once all sugar is added, increase to medium speed and beat until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes. If too thick, add milk or heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
- Ensure the frosting is thick enough to hold its shape but still spreadable. Adjust with more milk or powdered sugar as needed.
- Taste your frosting and adjust sweetness or vanilla flavor as desired.
Notes
- For a stronger vanilla flavor, add more vanilla extract.
- If the frosting is too thin, add more powdered sugar to thicken.
