Description

Indulge in a rich and creamy homemade chocolate pie with a smooth filling in a flaky crust. This decadent dessert is perfect for any occasion and is sure to impress with its elegant presentation and delightful flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-made pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 3/4 cups whole milk
  • 3 large egg yolks, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream, for topping (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt. Whisk until well blended.
  2. Gradually add the whole milk to the dry mixture, whisking continuously to avoid clumps. Place the saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, for about 5-7 minutes until it thickens to a pudding-like consistency.
  4. Once bubbling and thickened, remove from heat.
  5. In a small bowl, temper the egg yolks by adding a few spoonfuls of the hot chocolate mixture, whisking quickly.
  6. Slowly pour the tempered egg yolks back into the saucepan, whisking constantly. Return to heat and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until thick and glossy.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the unsalted butter and vanilla extract until fully melted and incorporated.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and pre-bake the store-bought crust for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden. For homemade crust, roll it out, fit it into a 9-inch pie dish, and chill for 30 minutes before baking.
  9. Let the pre-baked crust cool slightly to prevent sogginess when adding the filling.
  10. Pour the warm chocolate filling into the cooled pie crust, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  11. Cover the pie with plastic wrap or aluminum foil to prevent a skin from forming. Allow it to cool at room temperature for 30 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  12. When ready to serve, remove the pie from the refrigerator and gently peel off the covering.
  13. Use a sharp knife dipped in hot water to slice the pie, wiping the knife clean between slices for a neat presentation.
  14. Serve each slice with whipped cream on top, garnished with chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder if desired.
  15. Enjoy your delicious homemade chocolate pie with family and friends!
