Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans recommended)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the room-temperature butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Mix in the salt and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition and scraping down the sides of the bowl.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients in three parts, mixing on low speed until just combined.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) with a spatula.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes for better flavor and texture.
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and the centers look slightly underbaked.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes.
- Use a spatula to transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
- Freeze cookie dough balls on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to a zip-top bag. Add a couple of extra minutes to the baking time when baking from frozen.
- Enjoy your chewy chocolate chip cookies warm with a glass of milk!
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider using a mix of semisweet and milk chocolate chips.
- Chilling the dough is optional but recommended for the best texture.
