Indulge in the ultimate comfort food with this Cheesy Texas Toast! Thick-cut bread is slathered with a flavorful garlic butter mixture and topped with a gooey blend of cheddar and mozzarella cheese, then baked to golden perfection. Perfect as a side dish or a snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of thick-cut bread (Texas toast or similar)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a kick)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the softened butter.
  2. Add the minced garlic to the bowl.
  3. Sprinkle in the dried parsley, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  4. Mix everything together until well combined.
  5. Set the garlic butter aside.
  6. In a separate bowl, combine the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
  7. Mix the cheeses together until well combined.
  8. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  9. Slice the loaf of bread into thick pieces, about 1 inch thick.
  10. Spread a generous amount of the garlic butter mixture on one side of each slice of bread.
  11. Sprinkle a handful of the cheese mixture on top of each slice.
  12. Place the slices of bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  13. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges of the bread are golden brown.
  14. For extra bubbly cheese, switch the oven to broil for the last 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  15. Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute before serving.

Notes

  • Serve with marinara sauce for dipping or alongside a hearty soup for a complete meal.
  • Feel free to customize the cheese blend with your favorites or add herbs for extra flavor.
