Baked Churros Dessert: A Deliciously Easy Recipe to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 churros 1x

Description

Enjoy these baked churros, a healthier version of the classic dessert! Crispy outside and soft inside, they’re coated in a sweet cinnamon-sugar mix and perfect for dipping in chocolate sauce or pairing with whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • Chocolate sauce (for dipping)
  • Optional: whipped cream or caramel sauce (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Place over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
  2. Once boiling, remove from heat and add flour. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until a ball forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan (about 1-2 minutes).
  3. Let the dough cool for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Transfer churro dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip (or use a zip-top bag with a cut corner).
  8. Pipe the churro dough onto the prepared baking sheet in long strips, about 4-6 inches in length, leaving space between each.
  9. Use scissors to cut the dough at the end of each strip for a clean finish.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them to prevent over-baking.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet.
  12. In a shallow bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon. Mix well.
  13. Roll each churro in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
  14. Arrange the churros on a serving platter. Serve warm or at room temperature with chocolate sauce for dipping and optional whipped cream or caramel sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure the dough cools sufficiently before adding the eggs to prevent cooking them.
  • For a fun twist, try adding different spices to the sugar coating, such as nutmeg or cardamom.
