- 3 cups cold vodka, divided (or water for non-alcoholic version)
- 1 (8 oz) container of Cool Whip, thawed
- Blue food coloring (optional, for a deeper blue)
- Edible star sprinkles (optional, for decoration)
Instructions
- Dissolve the Blue Raspberry Jell-O in 2 cups of boiling water in a heat-safe bowl. Stir until completely dissolved.
- Add 1 cup of cold vodka (or water). Stir well. Add blue food coloring if desired.
- Pour the blue Jell-O mixture into a baking dish (9×13 inch or smaller for a thicker layer). Aim for a ½ inch thick layer.
- Refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours, or until completely firm.
- Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out star shapes. Gently remove the stars.
- Set the blue stars aside.
- Sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over 1 cup of cold water in a heat-safe bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes to bloom.
- Add 2 cups of boiling water to the bloomed gelatin. Stir until completely dissolved.
- Gently fold in the thawed Cool Whip. Stir until smooth and evenly combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Let the white mixture cool slightly for 10-15 minutes.
- Dissolve the Cherry Jell-O in 2 cups of boiling water in a heat-safe bowl. Stir until completely dissolved.
- Add 1 cup of cold vodka (or water). Stir well.
- Let the red mixture cool slightly for 10-15 minutes.
- Pour a layer of the red Jell-O mixture into each shot glass, filling it about 1/3 of the way.
- Refrigerate the shot glasses for at least 1-2 hours, or until the red layer is firm.
- Gently pour a layer of the white mixture on top of the red layer, filling the shot glass another 1/3 of the way.
- Before the white layer sets completely, arrange the blue stars on top of the white layer in the corner of each shot glass. Sprinkle with edible star sprinkles if desired.
- Refrigerate the shot glasses for at least 1-2 hours, or until the white layer is firm.
- Pour a layer of the red Jell-O mixture on top of the white layer, filling the shot glass to the top.
- Refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours, or preferably overnight, to ensure all layers are completely set.
Notes
- Use high-quality vodka for the best flavor.
- Don’t skip the cooling step to prevent layers from melting.
- Be patient and let each layer set completely before adding the next.
- Lightly grease shot glasses with cooking spray for easier serving.
- For a non-alcoholic version, substitute vodka with cold water.
- Adjust sweetness by reducing the amount of Jell-O powder slightly.
- Garnish with a small American flag toothpick or a fresh cherry.
